Referring to the ideas accompanying the Bauhaus exhibition in Weimar in 1923 and the founding of the Black Mountain College in 1933, the Warsaw Bauhaus Foundation, with financial support from the German Embassy, already in July and September offered the local community in Jankov (West Pomeranian Voivodeship, Drawsko Pomorskie area) a series of exhibitions, presentations and creative activation workshops, with the participation of Polish and German artists and activists, linking past, present and future. Jenny Brockmann’ s long term research on Bauhaus Master Gertrud Grunow was a reference.
The previous events took place near a historic granary where the first architectural project by Walter Gropius, the founder of the Bauhaus, was realized. The Warsaw Bauhaus Foundation carries out projects in the fields of architecture, design, theater, dance, music, arts and crafts, ethnography and museum studies. The iteration at Fringe Warsaw will show a documentation of the activities as well as other contemporary positions on the themes. Jenny Brockmann will contribute an installation featuring a video interview with the artistic directors of Bauhaus Warsaw Joanna Klass, Wojtek Szaszor about the genealogy of the acquisition of the Gropius Granary.
The opening of the exhibition “SOS’23 BauhausWeimar-BlackMountain: NowHere” featuring artists from Germany and Poland, among others, will take place on Thursday, 28.09.23 at 6 p.m. in Warsaw’s Solec district at the headquarters of the #warsawbauhaus Foundation. The exhibition is part of the Warsaw Fringe project.
