The starting point for the work complex “Horizon” was a reflection on the role of the horizon line in our spatial orientation. For the use of the exhibition at Elektrownia – Mazovian Centre for Contemporary Art in Radom a special environment work was built consisting of three alcoves. Inside them, viewers would see horizon lines moving with the lapse of time. This work is complemented by a book which documents the artist’s studies. Jenny Brockmann has also created a sort of small laboratory which enables us to experiment with horizon lines at various altitudes and in various lighting. American sculptor, Robert Morris says these words about human spatial intelligence: (…) for us space is equipped with two features – it can be close and distant, our own bodies – with an intimate awareness of weight and balance, of what is higher and what is lower, of movement and stillness, and a general awareness of bodily boundaries of behavior in relation to all these kinds of awareness.
