The work “Shelter” is a reflection on the organs of the body. Jenny Brockmann arranges blood circulation around the gallery while in its centre there is a beating granite heart. Using such a material contributes to monumentalization of the organ – but at the same time the artist keeps its organic character.

Cartesian dualism connected with the division into body and ego independent of it, shaped the way of thinking and approach to the body in European culture. According to phenomenological philosophy the artist reminds us that metabolic processes of organisms which occur beyond intentionality and awareness, such as heartbeat, constitute our humanity.
