CONCERTARE FORTE – Recalling Rebecca Horn’s installation ‘Concert for Buchenwald’
The Rebecca Horn master students Jenny Brockmann (*1976 in Berlin), Antonio Paucar (*1973 in Huancayo, Peru), Rebecca Raue (1976 in Berlin), Nina Rhode (*1971 in Düsseldorf) and Yorgos Sapountzis, (*1976 in Athens) are continuing the tradition of their teacher and inviting you to a performance evening. For Kunstfest 2024, the five artists will meet for three days at the site of the installation ‘Concert for Buchenwald’, in the old streetcar depot in Weimar, for which the renowned artist created a particularly moving installation 25 years ago.
Rebecca Horn got eighty years old in March 2024 and her former students have long since spread all over the world. Now they are coming together to reflect, listen to each other and develop a performative intervention in dialog in the spirit of their teacher. Two meetings will take place in the installation with invited guests only and on the third day the doors will be opened to a larger audience.
The project asks how artists today deal with the culture of remembrance. How politically do they read their own artistic work? How much courage is needed to react in a differentiated way to right-wing tendencies today? What does a permanent installation like the one Rebecca Horn has created mean in this context? What happens to the work today? How can attention be drawn to the work and its fruitfulness for current debates? The five artists will occupy the space one after the other with their own performances, as a protective space, as a space for action, as a space for remembrance.
Parallel to the performances, films by Rebecca Horn will be shown at the Lichthaus Kino, Weimar, and a related discussion event will be held.
