Zum Zufall – Group Exhibition
Group exhibition
Curator Dr. Birgit Möckel
26.10.14-07.12.14
26 October – 07 December 2014
The exhibition at Kunstverein KunstHaus Potsdam presents 11 current artistic positions on the phenomenon of “coincidence.” Whether as unforeseen event, conceptual approach, or spontaneous enrichment, all coincidences have consequences, demand decisions and show traces. The works in this exhibition follow these traces strategically and playfully in individual ways.
Coincidence resists predictability and can have a positive or negative result, but in many cases contains the potential to create something new. In art, a design element can be welcome as the unforeseen accomplice of an idea and function as either a completely uncontrollable or a wholly intentional event in the finished work. Chance is a constitutive element in all the works in the show, as unexpected enrichment, question or concept. Paintings, drawings, photography, sculpture and objects are all represented in the exhibition.
The exhibition is supported by the WILLMS NEUHAUS STIFTUNG – Zufall und Gestaltung, founded in Berlin in 2013. It initiates interdisciplinary discourses that can contribute to chance and its creative potential through essential insights and experiences.
The WILLMS NEUHAUS STIFTUNG – Zufall und Gestaltung is a member of the Stifterverband für die Deutsche Wissenschaft.
An accompanying publication with texts and illustrations of all works shown at Kunstverein KunstHaus Potsdam will be published.
