Jenny Brockmann. Informed Desire
Presentation of the HD Film »Informed Desire«

The recipient of the WILLMS NEUHAUS PRIZE 2020, Berlin-based artist Jenny Brockmann, combines in her outstanding artistic practice a far-reaching interdisciplinary discourse with participatory interaction and comprehensive artistic freedom. While decisively pursuing her wide-ranging artistic questions on spatial-temporal and current social experiences, she always leaves room for the coincidental.

For the film ‘Informed Desire’ Jenny Brockmann has invited seven scientists to reflect on the questions of the handling and effects of “uncertainty” within the process of knowledge production, transfer and interpretation and to discuss their experiences and perspectives on the performative, interactive experimental system Seat#12. Since the metal seating sculpture is mounted only on a central axis, the movements of the seated persons continuously change the position of the seat and thus of all seated persons. The conversation is filmed on K4 film material.

JENNY BROCKMANN *1976 is an artist (UdK Berlin, master student of Rebecca Horn) and architect (TU Berlin) who lives and works in Berlin. Her sculptures, participative installations, and discursive projects are presented internationally. In her work, she combines an extraordinary ability to represent and connect complex scientific contexts with constant communication and individual appropriation. Her artistic explorations are aimed at the interfaces between nature and art, art and science, and the humanities and natural sciences. She explores the resistive, the processual, and the dynamically interactive in space and thus also in time. Her comprehensive “spaces of knowledge” emerge from interdisciplinary contexts and evoke philosophical and psychological questions that constantly arise from communicative processes.
